1. Only people with a mixed background can grow their hair past shoulder length.
2. Black women can’t really grow their hair past shoulder length.
3. Black women hair just grows more slower than other races.
All of these including the title are MYTHS!!!
The average person on this planet hair grows 0.5 inches a month. Which means if you
are the average grower, you can get six inches in a year. Some people’s hair grows
faster or slower than this.
Now you don’t have hair down your back. you’re probably looking like WTF??
Black hair DOES grow. It’s just retaining what you grow. That’s the thing!!
How do you retain growth? Easy!
1. Wear protective styles! Put down that blow dryer and flat iron! NOW!
2. Stop overlapping those relaxers. NO you don’t need a perm every four weeks.
I don’t care what your stylists says.
3. Stop trimming your hair! Stylists that state that trimming your ends every 4-6 weeks
will grow your hair. MYTH!! Trim only when needed. Think about it…if you trim
that often, you’re just trimming away that 0.5 inches that you just grew. What’s the
point of that?
4. Relaxed heads–you need moisture and protein! Invest in some good products and
moisturize your hair every night. ORS Moisturizing Lotion is great. So is S-curl!
Some people think that oiling their scalp is the way to go but it isn’t. You need your
strands to be moisturized! Also invest in some protein products. Aphogee 2 Step
Treatment is great protein. I use this once a week. Megatek is also heavy protein.
Protein stops breakage.
5. Natural heads–you need moisture moreso than protein but don’t neglect it. Protein
is going to make your strands stronger. Buy products that are rich in moisture. Don’t
sleep on S-curl. Glycerin and water mixed together
is a great moisturizer.

I know most of us are egar for our hair to grow longer and thicker at a fast paste, so we use all sorts of growth aids to help speed up the process only to realize it is still not growing fast enough. Here are ten tips on how to get your hair to grow long and thick.
1. Leave your hair alone yall! to much manipulation on the hair causes stress, and stress on the hair causes it to break and fall out, leaving you with damaged hair. Which leads me to number two
2. Keep your hair in protective styles. Leave your hair in a protective style like twist, braids, corn rows, etc, for at leat three to four weeks at a time. This will give the hair a break from all the stlying, giving it time to grow.
3. Trim or dust your ends every six to eight weeks. Trimming your ends more frequently will save you from having to do big chops in the future. Don’t sacrafice length for damaged hair. It will grow back healthier and stronger.
4. Only detangle when you are conditioning your hair, or when hair is damp with water. Detangling on dry hair only causes breakage and we don’t want that. Which leads me to number five
5. Stay away from the comb. Instead of a comb, use your fingers if possible to style your hair. A comb should only be used for detangling the hair.
6. Deep condition your hair once a week. This will help it to stay strong and moisturized. Also it trains the hair to love moisture.
7. Keep your scalp conditioned. We tend to do so much for our hair and neglect our scalp. You should always oil your scalp with a natural hair cream or oil like coconut oil or olive oil to keep it moist. This will prevent flaking and dry scalp conditions. I recommend doing this twice a week.
8. Try to wash and condition hair in sections. If hair is long enough plait your hair into loose big braids and wash your hair. This will cause less tangles and shrinkage. If hair is not long enough to do this use claw clips to hold your hair is sections and wash one section at a time. Believe me you will have less work to do when you are finished shampooing.
9. Always tie your hair down with satan or silk scarf before bed. This will help lock in the moisture. For even more moisture retainment try sleeping in a plastic shower cap with a scarf wrapped around it. This will keep your hair from loosing any moisture at all. please note hair will be damp not soaking in the morning.
10. Get all of your vitamins. Eat a healthy balanced meal everyday, take multivitamins and biotin. Excercise to get blood flowing through out the body and to the scalp.

Alopecia Areata is a disease that causes hair loss. It usually affects the scalp, but can also affect other areas of the body that have hair. The hair loss is quite rapid, and occurs in patches. Alopecia Areata (AA) is common form of hair loss, unpredictable and not painful disease. Usually people who suffer this disease are losing their hair in small, round patches from areas of the body, usually the scalp.
Alopecia Areata usually affects younger women and children. This condition has unknown causes, although in some cases, it happens because of the body’s auto-immune response to form white cells and the hair follicles on the areas where the hair is commonly produced are attacked. A distinguishable polished area of the scalp that feels silky smooth commonly becomes noticeable. And the hairs that surround the bald areas are thin and break off easily. These may be extremely fine and the entire shaft of hair would resemble an exclamation mark.
Causes of Alopecia
The specific cause of alopecia areata is unknown. A family history of alopecia is present in about a fifth of all cases. Alopecia areata is occasionally associated with autoimmune diseases . –Normally the immune system protects the body against infection and disease. In an autoimmune disease, the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks some part of your own body. In alopecia areata, the immune system attacks the hair follicles. For people whose genes put them at risk for the disease, some type of trigger starts the attack on the hair follicles. The triggers may be a virus or something in the person’s environment.
Symptoms of Alopecia
Alopecia areata is actually a disease of the immune system and is commonly referred to as an autoimmune syndrome. This puts this disease into a class that also includes Crohn’s disease as well as IBD and so on. The most common symptoms of alopecia areata is the hair loss on the head as well as the other parts of the body. The reason this occurs is the fact that the immune system starts to attack the hair follicles and stops them from growing hair or maintaining the root structure. When this happens the hair is no longer healthy and will fall out. With this particular form of alopecia you will normally have quarter sized patches of hair loss on the scalp and men can suffer from the same on the chest and so on.
Treatment of Alopecia
1. Certain medications to promote hair growth (such as minoxidil and finasteride).
2. Treating any underlying condition or disease.
3. Corticosteroid injections (when treating alopecia areata).
4. Scalp reduction.
5. A doctor can prescribe several drugs, including creams and steroid injections. Many people also respond well to drugs that promote hair growth.
Sufferers of alopecia areata should not give up hope of a cure as there are many ongoing research projects are currently being undertaken. Some of the most promising involve gene therapy, stem cells research and hair follicle development and new alopecia areata treatments will continue to be made available.
